Course Description: 

Students will be able to develop their linguistic skills alongside their understanding of culture and society of the countries where Spanish is spoken. 

Throughout their studies, they learn the language in the context of Hispanic countries and issues and influences which have shaped them.  

A Level Spanish challenges students’ minds and develops their abilities in a number of key ways: Communication, analysis, time management, working with others, problem solving, as well as planning and organising. 

Course Content: 

Assessment objectives are:

1. Aspects of Hispanic society - Modern and Traditional values, Cyberspace, Equal rights

2. Artistic culture in the Hispanic world - Modern day idols, Spanish regional identity, Cultural heritage

3. Multiculturalism in Hispanic Society - Immigration, Racism, Integration

4. Aspects of political life in the Hispanic world - Today's youth, tomorrow's citizens, Monarchies and dictatorships, Popular movements

Students will study a book and a film and will have the opportunity to carry out independent research on an area of their choice.  

Entry requirements: 

The standard entry criteria to study in the sixth form are a 9-4 in at least seven different subjects, including English and mathematics, which would usually be at grade 5 or above.  

Assessment: 

Listening Reading and Writing Paper: 50%  

Speaking exam: 30% 

Writing about the book & film: 20% 

Financial Information:

Copies of core text books are provided. However, the text that is studied alongside any revision guides and vocab booklets will need to be purchased.

Languages fit with all other courses and  can open doors in any career opportunities. 

Employers are always keen to recruit  candidates with linguistic skills in the ever increasing global markets.
