Data released today places Blessed William Howard Catholic High School as the number one school in Stafford and in the top five performing high schools in Staffordshire!
The key measure used for high schools is the Progress 8 score – this is the measure of progress that students make between Y6 and Y11 at GCSE across all subjects and ultimately establishes whether the individual has progressed at, above or below the expected level.  The higher the Progress 8 score, the better the performance of the students.  A score of zero means that the school's pupils progressed at a rate in line with the average rate of progression of other children across the country who achieved similar results at the end of Key Stage 2.
A score above zero means that school's pupils have progressed more than children across the country who achieved similar results at the end of Key Stage 2.
Blessed William Howard’s score has been confirmed as +0.57, officially defined as ‘well above average’.

Mr Karl Brown, Principal said, “This is such a great achievement for our students and I am delighted with the result.  In 2023, the percentage of high grades given in GCSE exams has declined across the country due to the lingering influence of Covid. Nevertheless, we achieved our most outstanding results to date, and this accomplishment is attributable to the dedicated efforts of our entire team, including staff, students, parents, governors and directors. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of them.":
