The English Baccalaureate
The English Baccalaureate is not a single qualification but a portfolio of qualifications at GCSE level deemed to be most important in assessing students potential for Higher Education.
It has become the new government benchmark in assessing individual and school performance.
The governors at Blessed William Howard are keen to ensure that all of its students are competitive in the market place, whether that be employment or higher education at university.
This will mean that most students will achieve grades 9-4 in English, mathematics, additional (double) science, history or geography and a modern foreign language.
Accordingly, it is recommended that most students endeavour to acquire the English Baccalaureate by taking at least one subject in the humanities (either History or Geography) and a modern foreign language together with the three core subjects.
