Curriculum Overview

Our aim is to provide a broad and balanced curriculum which helps children to acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes which fully prepare them for the next stage of their education and later life in modern Britain.
We run a two-week timetable, with 'Red Week' or Week 1 and 'Blue Week' - Week 2.
At Blessed William Howard we guide and encourage all students to achieve academic excellence and ensure their God-given gifts and talents are utilised to the full.
We aim to foster the intellectual, social, creative, physical, moral and spiritual development of all our pupils and to this end, we look to ensure our curriculum is broad, balanced, relevant, and personalised.
We aim to create

We use our Rewards and Sanction policy to promote positive attitudes to learning which reflect the values and skills needed to promote responsibility for learning and future success.
Key Stage 3
We have a very broad KS3 Curriculum covering 14 subjects meeting all the national curriculum requirements. This is taught in 25 hours of contact time each week.
Year 7-9
The curriculum includes:
- Religious Education
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), French and Spanish
- Humanities – History, Geography
- Performing Arts – Drama and Music
- Creative Arts – Art and Design Technology
- Computing
- Physical Education
At the end of Year 8, all students will choose their options in preparation for the start of year 9.
Students continue to follow a broad and balanced curriculum with a Carousel running in: Geography, History, Music, Art, Drama, DT and Computing.

Key Stage 4
Years 10-11
All students will study
- Religious Education
- English – Literature and Language
- Mathematics
- Science – Combined Science or Separate Science - Biology, Physics and Chemistry
- Humanities – History or Geography
- The two options the student selected at the end of Year 8
We offer a range of pathways to GCSE to meet the specific learning needs of our students
Pathway 1 – Students who will complete combined or Separate science, MFL and Humanities (approx 40%)
Pathway 2 – Students who will complete combined science, MFL and Humanities (approx 30%)
Pathway 3 – Students who will complete combined science and Humanities (Approx 30%)
